Manipulate to Recreate

Here are some of my swatches from the fabric manipulation project.  We had to pin fabrics onto mannequins,  draw and photograph them and use them as source imagery for the manipulations.
My colour scheme also came from the images taken from the stand.  I chose a palette of light pink and black.

Beginning Fashion!

We started the week getting used to the sewing machines and learning to use them for those who hadn't sewn before.  We were also given the brief for the project we're currently working on.  The project is based on fabric manipulation to create texture and pattern.

On Tuesday for knit we had a lace making workshop.  We had some people from Kenmare lace to teach us and talk to us a bit about the background and history of kenmare lace. They also showed us examples of different kinds of lace.

Here are a few examples that they showed us.  I thought they were really beautiful and the amount of work that goes into them is just incredible.  After learning the stitches and a couple of hours work all I had done was about 3cm!

Hopefully I'll be able to get better at it so I can enter the competition for the Kenmare lace festival in October.  It seems like a nice project to take on and the prize of a two day corsetry workshop in London is something I'd be really interested in learning about.

I Opened The Door And...Animation

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTWi4HAYBO8

For some reason I can't embed the video, so there's the link ^

The story for my animation is a girl finds a door on the middle of a bath with trees, she walks up to it, steps inside and falls. When she lands, she is back in front of the door and falls through again.

Animation Images before and after

These are some of the images I used for my animation.  I used a tablet and Photoshop to turn the photos into drawings.

Animation Inspiration!

I decided to do a stop motion of a girl who goes through a door and falls.  These are some images/videos I found while researching.  I also tried to find a clip of Wendy falling in Disneys Peter pan but couldn't.

Paper, Layers and Pleats, oh my!

The first day I felt as though I didn't have enough big shapes so I cut out some more bigger ones for.  I started getting more interesting forms on the mannequin than I had on Monday.

I pleated the top parts of these pieces before pinning them on.

I added more layers of pleated pieces on for more volume.

I also tried adding more layers of smaller pieces on top.

It was really interesting to see how different the shapes become when placed on the mannequin in different ways.
